A Penrith man is to stand trial accused of using controlling behaviour towards a woman and alleged false imprisonment.
Kyle Pelham (26), of Raiselands Croft, faces a total of three charges.
One alleges the use of controlling or coercive behaviour towards a woman. The specific allegations are that he used unlawful violence towards the woman; made threats to set fire to family members’ property; confiscating a phone; texting friends and family abuse from that phone; deleting content; controlling its contact list; changing the phone number on two occasions; and not allowing her to leave the address.
This conduct is alleged to have occurred between 1st May and 14th July.
In addition, Pelham faces a second charge alleging false imprisonment. A third charge alleges assault of the woman by beating.
During a short hearing at Carlisle Crown Court on Monday, Pelham pleaded not guilty to the three charges.
The case was adjourned for a jury trial. This is due to take place in the week of 27th November.
In the meantime, he was remanded in custody.
