Volunteers from global engineering firm Babcock have been supporting an Eden charity which makes horses and horse riding more accessible to people with disabilities.
Members of the local Babcock team have been using their ‘Be Kind’ days — which allow employees to support a cause close to their hearts — to help renovate the premises used by Happy Hooves Riding for the Disabled Group, based at Skelton Wood End, near Penrith.
Over the past 12 months the team have, among other things, redesigned the tack room and erected a shelter from which parents and carers can watch riding sessions in the arena.
Alison Noble, proprietor of Happy Hooves, thanked the Babcock team for their efforts over the past year, presenting them with a ‘Thank You’ plaque to mark her appreciation and that of the charity’s trustees and members.
Lynne Watson, deputy station manager for Babcock at Skelton, said: “It has been a pleasure to support Happy Hooves and providing a valuable contribution to an important local charity. Babcock takes great pride in supporting organisations which provide valuable services to the local community, and it has been an extremely fulfilling experience working with staff and volunteers at Happy Hooves — witnessing first-hand the wonderful work they do.
“We’re pleased to have spent our Be Kind days providing some improvements which we hope will play a small role in improving the experience for riders and visitors to Happy Hooves.”
