One of Penrith Lottery’s founding members, Maggie Cormode, has stood down from the organisation’s committee after 11 years’ service.
Maggie, best known to Penrithians from Maggie’s Bakery in Sandgate, helped to launch Penrith Lottery in 2010 and had been part of the organisation’s committee ever since.
Chairman of Penrith Lottery, Richard Utting, said: “As one of the founders of Penrith Lottery, Maggie has been a fantastic servant to the lottery, overseeing its development over the last decade whilst sitting on the committee.
“Without her input and enthusiasm over the years it would not be where it is today. She will be sadly missed.”
Also departing the committee at the annual meeting was Joe Webb, who had filled the post of treasurer. Richard said: “Joe will also be a sad miss as his input has been invaluable in the lottery’s development, overseeing the financial side of the organisation.”
The committee were, however, pleased to appoint Kevin Dowding to the group.
“We are looking forward to working with Kevin as our newest committee member. It’s great to welcome a new team member, especially someone who has followed the lottery through social media,” said Richard.
Previously chairman of Penrith Mountain Rescue Team, Kevin had become aware of Penrith Lottery when the rescue team was supported with a grant towards a lifesaving piece of equipment.
A keen supporter of several local causes and charities, Kevin says he is happy to turn his hand to a variety of activities.
He said: “I joined Penrith Lottery committee in October, 2021, and I’m looking forward to helping out and contributing to the sustainable success of this great local organisation.”
The lottery is run by a voluntary committee which meet once a month — usually on the third Thursday of the month — to assess grant applications, review finances and membership figures and progress development and strategy.
The committee is currently recruiting for new members, with potential volunteers invited to make contact by emailing hello@penrithlottery.org.uk with a view to sitting in on a meeting.
