People can have their say over plans to pedestrianise a road in Penrith at a drop-in session this month.
Cumbria County Council commissioned a transport improvements plan for Penrith to support Eden District Council’s Local Plan which looks at future development.
The plan identifies a range of improvements to the highway network that are required to support growth ambitions. The improvements are being delivered by Cumbria County Council in phases as and when development timescales are understood.
Corney Place is the most recent proposed improvement, which has been identified due to the increasing development north of the town centre and an increase in pedestrian traffic.
This scheme will increase pedestrian space and create a pedestrian crossing. As a result of this pedestrian improvement will mean that Corney Place will be one-way southbound.
Residents and businesses are invited to attend a further drop-in session, where plans will be on display, so they can see the improvements in greater detail. The drop-in session will be held on:
- Monday November 28, Penrith Library from 3.45pm to 5.45pm.

Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said:
“Following the success of the last drop-in session about Corney Place, we have arranged another session, a little later in the day, to accommodate people leaving work. In addition, there is an online consultation that will remain open until early December.
“We want to make Corney Place a safer place for pedestrians and local residents, and would like input and feedback from the local community on our proposed plans.
“I would encourage the local community to either attend the drop-in session in November, or complete the short survey online, so that we can listen to and understand their views.”
