The A66 is closed eastbound between Penrith and Temple Sowerby due to a collision.
It is understood the collision involved two lorries, our colleagues at Cumbria Road Watch are reporting.
National Highways said emergency services and recovery agents are currently on the scene and working to clear the vehicles involved.
Drivers are urged to seek alternative routes as delays are building up.
