Tributes have been paid following the death on Tuesday of Spots, believed to be one of the oldest dogs in Cumbria.
Spots, a 20-year-old Jack Russell, was a much-loved family pet, said her owners, Margaret and John Walton, of Pooley Bridge.
Mr and Mrs Walton had Spots cremated at the Paws to Rest pet crematorium at Armathwaite, where staff told her that Spots was one of the oldest dogs they had ever seen in Cumbria.
Spots had enjoyed a very active life, having walked up all the Wainwrights a great number of times, including High Street just last week, said Mr Walton, a warden at Ullswater’s Hillcroft Park campsite.
“She was amazing, never barked, she just loved people and people at the Hillcroft site loved her. She sat and watched people go by,” said Mrs Walton.
Mr Walton had rescued her from a horrible situation in 2005 after answering an advert to buy car in Lancashire, where the couple were living before moving to Cumbria in 2012.
It was found that Spots was one of a number of dogs who had been stolen from all over the country.
Her owners, who were in London, were traced, but they said as it had been so long, they no longer wanted her back, said Mrs Walton.
“She was very shy to start with, you couldn’t buy a newspaper, because she was scared of them.
“It was horrendous, before we had her, how she was, but we changed her life around, which is amazing,” she added.
