A team of mathematicians from Penrith’s Queen Elizabeth Grammar School has beaten off competition from across the region to come first in an annual maths competition.
The Year 10 Maths Feast was hosted by the North West region of the Advanced Maths Support Programme at Lancaster University. It was attended by schools from across the North West. The competition comprised of four rounds which each took 20 minutes.
Students had to work together to solve a wide variety of maths problems against the clock. QEGS entered two teams, one of which was 10th while the other took first place by winning two of the rounds, coming second in another, and joint third in another.
Maths teacher Owen Price-Jones, said: “Both teams had a great time and showed excellent teamwork. Of course we are delighted that one of our teams has won, but our team who placed 10th definitely had the most fun!”
