Hundreds of pounds worth of eco-friendly cleaning products have been donated to the county’s air ambulance.

Neat, which recently launched into Booths supermarkets across the north, has donated items from its range to help with the upkeep of the Great North Air Ambulance Service’s (GNAAS) bases.

A two-year supply of goods have gone to the sites, in Langwathby near Penrith and Eaglescliffe, near Yarm. Hampers containing the products will also be raffled off at forthcoming GNAAS fundraising events.

Launched at the end of 2020, Neat has eliminated single-use plastics by producing plant-based cleaning concentrates in small glass containers and refillable aluminium spray bottles that consumers top up with water.

Jim Entwistle, GNAAS spokesman, said: “Not only will this help us raise vital funds to keep our helicopters flying, but these eco-friendly products will also help us keep the base clean.

“It goes without saying how important hygiene is in our line of work, so this gesture was very much appreciated.”

Ryan McSorley, CEO of Neat, said: “With our range now available in northern supermarkets, we wanted to do our bit to help a cause which makes a vital contribution to life in the north. You don’t get much more vital than the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

“We hope some of the donated items help raise money to keep them flying.”

Speaking about the eco-credentials of his range, Mr McSorley added: “We need solutions that are a radical step-change in reducing single-use plastic.

“At Neat, our beautiful, design-led solutions use aluminium and glass as primary material. We also avoid shipping water – which makes up 90 per cent of a typical bottle of cleaner – halfway around the world.”
