A crackdown on anti-social behaviour was carried out in Penrith town centre.
Police worked with the fire service, Eden council and DVSA on the operation, following complaints of anti-social behaviour from drivers in the town.
Officers stopped over 25 vehicles.
Eden police said:
- Four vehicles had tyres with either cord exposed or tread less than 1.6mm, which resulted in an immediate prohibition and fines
- Five vehicles had illegally tinted front windows, which resulted in immediate prohibition
- One driver was arrested for driving while over the prescribed limit of cocaine – and police added their handbrake was not working and tyre cord was exposed
- Two exhaust silencers not present, which resulted in prohibition
- One vehicle with numerous wheel nuts missing from three wheels, which resulted in immediate prohibition
Four taxis were also stopped and all licence details checked.
Eden police said: “We receive numerous reports of vehicle antisocial behaviour in Penrith. This partnership approach highlighted that there are vehicles which are not roadworthy and potentially unsafe. This is an operation we will look to repeat.”
