The names of the 10 Fix the Fell rangers who successfully navigated a process containing nearly 1,000 applicants have been revealed.
Fix the Fells led an application process for 10 rangers to join their teams to repair eroded paths on the Lake District fells.
The combination of rainwater and walkers leads to erosion, with volunteers working to create resilient paths which are better able to withstand the 20 million visitors to the Lakes each year.
Fix the Fells is made up of five organisations – the National Trust, Lake District National Park, Friends of the Lake District, Natural England and the Lake District Foundation – working together to protect the Lakeland fells.
If erosion is left unchecked, the damage develops into wider and deeper scars which destroy vegetation and moves soil and stone into rivers and lakes.
In the 1980s and 1990s before path repair work started, there were scars of 90ft wide and 12ft deep.
