A man has died following a road collision near Shap yesterday.
Emergency services were called to reports of a one-vehicle collision on the A6, south of Shap, at 6.45pm yesterday.
Police, fire service, ambulance and air ambulance crews attended the incident, which involved a Kia Sportage.
Two occupants from the vehicle were treated at the scene and taken by ambulances to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.
The driver of the vehicle – a man aged 64 – died while at the hospital. It is believed he had a medical episode while at the wheel.
The passenger – a 14-year-old girl – was not seriously hurt.
The A6 and B6261 link to the M6 were closed to ensure the safety of casualties and emergency services.
One lane of the A6, along with the B6261, was reopened at 8.30pm and a forensic collision examination of the scene was completed, with one lane of the A6 remaining closed until 11.30pm.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward who were travelling along the A6 at 6.45pm, who may have seen a black Kia or who stopped at the scene and did not manage to pass details to the police.
