Beckstones Art Gallery near Greystoke is launching its autumn exhibition featuring Lake District landscape painter Julian Mason on Saturday, 7th October.
A spokesman said: “Julian has been exhibiting with Beckstones since 2009 and his spectacular oil paintings have established him as one of the gallery’s most popular artists.”
Born in 1971 in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Julian’s passion for the landscape was ignited when he was just a child with regular camping trips to Scotland which he recalls fondly as “adventures”. “That adventurous spirit has never left him and, shunning the conventional artist’s studio, Julian has established himself as one of the country’s leading and most exciting plein air artists,” said the spokesman.
Equipped with all his painting paraphernalia, Julian can walk for miles through remote and rugged terrain searching for that perfect view before finally setting up his easel, sometimes in the most precarious positions, and painting, losing himself in the landscape around him.
“Plein air professional contemporary painters are rare, but Julian finds the freedom of the landscape liberating and simply exciting. He revels in its beauty, and the often challenging lengths he goes to are more than justified by what he then manages to achieve,” the spokesman said.
Out in all seasons and weathers, Julian’s ability to bring life and movement to the landscape through his painting is undeniable.
“Working quickly and deliberately, Julian’s keen eye and expert application combine to produce work of both depth and integrity conveying the enigmatic power and majestic beauty of the Lake District. His application of colour and integral light bring the view alive and one can imagine being there just as Julian was, seeing what he saw in that moment in time,” the spokesman added.
There are 43 new paintings in this collection, completed over the last two years, with prices ranging from £300 to £4,800. The exhibition runs until Sunday, 22nd October, at Beckstones Art Gallery, Greystoke Ghyll.
