An Eden building firm has won a major award for its work.
G Bowman Building Contractors, of Penrith, was the northern region winner at the Local Authority Building Control Building Excellence Awards.
It was given the top prize for its work on an extension to a home in Glenridding.
The firm will now qualify for the national finals.
The northern trophy was presented to Gary Bowman, of Bowman Building Contractors, architect Graham Norman, and their client.
The extension involved demolishing a third of the property and rebuilding the house with a new kitchen, sunroom, bathrooms, bedroom, and utility room.
They also added floor to ceiling windows to one section which overlooks Ullswater.
Bowman Building Contractors salvaged the stone and slate from the demolition to retain the character of the local area.
They beat off competitors from across Cumbria and the North East due to the high level of detail put into all aspects of the build.
Gary said: “It was quite a surprise really as it was our first time entering and our first win.
“It’s great to be acknowledged for the hard work that we, and our sub-contractors, put into every build.
“It’s a credit to the quality of work that local builders consistently reach, which is often overlooked.
“Thats why we always use the same local contractors to produce the best quality results.
“Excellent work, and a great one to win.”
Eden Stonework Ltd won a highly commended for Appleby Cricket Club’s renovation.
Atkinson Building Contractors and Shaun Marsden Building Management also made the finals.
Alistair Richmond, Eden District Council’s building control manager, said: “It is great to see the local area so well represented in the Northern Region of the LABC Awards.
“This reflects the high level of craftsmanship and pride that building companies and contractors take in their work.”
The awards ceremony was held virtually as the physical event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
