A heifer from the Ridley family’s Haltcliffe herd, based at Hesket Newmarket, dazzled at the Crown Collection sale of pedigree Limousin female cattle held at Borderway mart, Carlisle, on Saturday.
The top sale price of 25,000gns (£26,250) was paid for Haltcliffe Razzle, a heifer born in December, 2020. Sired by Westpit Omaha out of Haltcliffe Orchid, she was in calf to the 20,000gns Ampertaine Shanghi and attracted keen bidding before heading to a new home with Trevor Shields, of the Glenmarshal pedigree herd, Newry, Northern Ireland.
The sale, featuring pedigree Limousin females from six leading herds, proved successful for the Ridleys, who sold five in calf heifers to average £8,946 and five maiden heifers to average £4,557.
Overall, a great day’s trading saw 60 cattle sold — a clearance rate of 85 per cent — with the average being £5,212.
The second highest price of 16,000gns was paid for Frogmore Nicola, bought by Messrs Boden & Davies, Sportsmans herd, Mellor, Stockport.
