An open event is being held this weekend, and anyone looking for an exciting, rewarding and flexible career as an on-call firefighter is being encouraged to come along to Penrith Fire Station.
On-call firefighters do the same emergency work as wholetime firefighters, but the role can fit around another job.
While on duty, they carry a pager which activates when they need to attend an incident.
“Our firefighters come from all walks of life, including homemakers, shopkeepers, builders, farmers, office workers and company directors, together with people who are nor currently employed,” said a spokesman.
The open recruitment weekend will run from 10am to 4pm Saturday, April 15 and Sunday April 16, with people invited to drop in any time over the weekend to meet some of the crew and look round the station or just have a chat to see if this is something they would like to do.
The closing date for applications is April 30.
