Penrith Mountain Rescue Team members were called out on Sunday morning to help a walker who had injured their leg while out on Talkin Fell, in the North Pennines.
The call came just after 10am from the North West Ambulance Service.
As rescuers were driving to the site, the Great North Air Ambulance Service helicopter was also deployed, since there were concerns over the severity of the lower leg injury.
The helicopter was quickly on scene and was joined soon after by two rescue team members who lived locally. Two Penrith team vehicles arrived at the incident site and the casualty was flown to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.
Eleven Penrith team members were involved in the incident, which lasted two-and-a-half hours.
