Children at Greystoke Primary School were taken back in time to the 1980s when a former Time Lord dropped in.
Colin Baker, who played the sixth Dr Who from 1984 to 1986, visited the school to cheer the children up after they had suffered a disappointment when their new playground was not ready on time.
It was perhaps just as well the opening ceremony did not take place as planned, with rain pouring down at the time it was due to take place, but the traveller from Gallifrey did a brilliant job of turning the children’s minds to other things.
“Most of the children were too young to know anything about Dr Who, but Mr Baker was brilliant,” said school head Jeanette Matthews. “He talked about how he had been inspired to follow an acting career after he saw The King and I in Manchester, and the children had loads of questions.”
The actor also disclosed that his favourite Doctor is Jodie Whittaker, who has just regenerated.
