At the beginning of the first lockdown, in April, 2020, a community support group was set up in Bampton to help with shopping, technology needs and to keep people in touch with each other as we retreated behind our doors.
Soon, a weekly newsletter was created, which was distributed to every household in the parish.
This included information about COVID regulations and support systems, and evolved to include weekly recipes, quizzes and photographs.
That was the seed of the idea to collect favourite recipes from members of the community and bring them together as a book.
The book has now been now published, called Covid Lockdown Cooking Comforts.
It not only offers a range of recipes, old and new, savoury and sweet, but it is also filled with beautiful photographs of local views, wildlife and typical features within the parish.
The aim is raise funds, with profits being shared equally between Hospice at Home and Bampton village hall.
A spokesman said: “There is plenty to try out to cook or just enjoy the photographs of the beautiful landscape in which we are so fortunate to live.
“It is a great way to remember some of the positive things that happened during those difficult months of isolation, disruption, fear and loss.
“Not least of all, the sense of community helping and caring for each other.”
Copies of the book can be obtained from Bampton village shop, telephone 01931 713351, or from The Abbey Kitchen, Shap.
