A man had to be rescued from a snowdrift by firefighters, police and mountain rescuers after travelling to Stainmore during lockdown, a court has heard.
Aidan Carron, 22, of Thorngumbald, Hull, has been fined £1,760 after the charge was proved in his absence at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The offence took place on January 9 when Carron left his home and travelled to Stainmore where he was found — with others — stuck in a snow drift on Tan Hill Road.
The fire service, police and three mountain rescue vehicles were needed in the rescue.
Carron told police he had travelled to the area to visit a family friend following the death of a family member.
However he failed to respond to the summons or attend court this week.
Along with the fine he will pay a £176 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
