Kirby Stephen Football Club has set a fundraising target of £100,000 for an extension to its existing changing rooms, which would create a welcoming space where refreshments could be served to players and supporters alike.
A spokeswoman said: “Kirkby Stephen Football Club is more than just a place to play football — it’s the heart of a vibrant, supportive community. With excellent pitches and a passionate membership, the club is now turning its attention to the future by raising funds to build an extension to the existing changing rooms.
“Over the past year, the club has pulled together to make this dream a reality, hosting a variety of fundraising events. From cake sales and an exciting football shoot-out at the Easter Rally to Hallowe’en discos and lively family prize bingo nights, the community spirit has been truly inspiring.”
The fundraising reached a new level last month, when the club — which was awarded club of the year by the Westmorland FA — hosted a weekend of community celebration under a marquee. The event kicked off on the Friday night with ever-popular band The Aviators, followed by music all weekend from DJ John Shaw.
Saturday saw an exciting match between club legends and the current senior team — with the seniors holding their nerve to claim the win.
The seniors also held their annual presentation. Scott Allison had a stand-out season, walking away with three awards — players’ player, manager’s player and top goal scorer. Ross Jackson was named young player of the season, while Jacob Murray claimed goal of the season with his memorable first senior goal.
Sunday began with a family fun tournament at Parrots Park featuring 15 enthusiastic teams. Parents, aunties and uncles laced up their boots to support the junior players in a spirited competition. The final showdown between Swanny and the Ballers and The Mods ended in a nail-biting penalty shootout.
Senior team manager Mark Modlin secured the win for The Mods with two impressive saves.
The festivities continued with the juniors heading to the river for the much-anticipated duck race. Thanks to tireless efforts from Kate Jackson and Lesley Davidson, the event raised an incredible £1,500. The day concluded with junior presentations, where many young players were recognised for their achievements.
Charlie Marston earned the Junior Goalkeeper of the Club award, and there were tears all around as Freya Murphy gave a heartfelt farewell speech.
“It was a fantastic weekend that perfectly showcased the club’s spirit and unity. We hope to make it an annual tradition,” said the spokeswoman.
“This season we are launching our new senior reserves team, which will be managed by Brandon Jackson, Paul Brown and Malcolm Metcalfe. New players are welcome.”
“In addition, the club’s junior section is going from strength to strength, with a new under-7 team this year. The hunt is also on for new players for the under-13 and under-14 teams. Please get in touch if you are interested. We need you,” added the spokeswoman.
“Our goal is to raise £100,000 to fund the extension and improved facilities. If you’d like to get involved with our fundraising efforts, please reach out via our Facebook page or email modlinkaty81@gmail.com
“Every bit of support helps and, together, we can build something truly special for the future.”
