Work has begun on a new 25-home development at Hackthorpe with plans by Penrith-based builders Genesis Homes to create new housing developments at Calthwaite, Lazonby and Carleton this year.
Building work recently started on the new Lonsdale Park development on land north of Hackthorpe Hall.
It will be a mixture of two, three, four and five-bedroom properties, including four three-bedroom bungalows and a percentage of affordable homes. They are set for a sales launch later this month.
The land has long been considered ripe for housing by a variety of developers and has been the subject of a number of planning applications and proposals over the years.
In 2019 Genesis Homes, based on the Gilwilly Industrial Estate, announced a £43 million investment program building nearly 300 new homes across Cumbria and in October last year revealed it was targeting four sites in Eden at Hackthorpe, Carleton, Calthwaite and Lazonby.
Construction of the Calthwaite development is set to begin this month with work planned to start in Carleton and Lazonby later this summer.
Nicky Gordon, Genesis Homes managing director, said: “We’ve been spoilt with the unique characteristics of each of our development locations to date and Hackthorpe is no different.
“Its outward views are simply breathtaking and in all my years of development and the scenery on so many, I think the full panoramic raised views across the Pennines that this site offers are a one-off.
“The forward facing and raised orientation of so many of the homes on this development means that they all benefit from these views.
“With so many registrations of interest, I can understand why the development is going to be so popular when it launches for sale.”
