Two men approached pupils from Appleby Primary School, asking them for their mobile phones in a ‘threatening manner’.
Parents in the town have been warned about the incident, which happened on Friday and have been asked to accompany their children to school.
Appleby Grammar School has sent out a letter to parents about the incident.
It said: “As some of you have children at Appleby Primary School, you may be aware that the school has issued a statement.
“The incident involved two males who approached two Appleby Primary School students and behaved in a threatening manner involving asking the students for their mobile phones. No property was taken and neither of the children were harmed in any way.
“Cumbria police have been informed of the incident.”
Primary school parents have been asked in the short term to make sure all children are accompanied by an adult on their journey to and from school.
The letter added: “As our students are older, we are not going to insist on this measure but we leave it up to you as parent/carers as to how you respond.”
It said staff were due to speak to pupils to encourage them to be extra vigilant on their way to and from school and ask them to ensure that if they walk home, that they do it as part of a group if at all possible.
