A pair of walkers became lost while descending from the top of Cross Fell on Saturday and required help from Penrith Mountain Rescue Team.
The team were contacted by police around 6pm about the lost pair, who had been caught out by bad weather and were unsure of their location in the dark.
After speaking with the couple and trying to guide them to the Greg’s Hut bothy, near the top of Cross Fell, it was decided they would be better off remaining where they were, out of the wind and waiting for rescue.
Two groups of Penrith rescuers were mobilised, one to approach by foot from Kirkland and one by vehicle from Garrigill.

The couple were found at 9.25pm, team members walked them over to the team Land Rovers and they were driven back to their vehicle at Kirkland.
Ten Penrith team members were involved in the effort, which lasted five hours and 55 minutes.
