Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out on Saturday after a walker injured her ankle while at Angle Tarn.
The female walker was on a walk with her sister when she slipped on ice and went over on her ankle.
She was unable to continue with the walk and nearby wild campers were able to make sure she was kept warm with a sleeping bag and extra jackets until the mountain rescue team volunteers arrived.
Once on scene, she was assessed by the team doctor and her very swollen ankle was stabilised with a splint. She was then evacuated off the fell by stretcher. Once back at the base she was handed over to an ambulance for transfer to hospital.
The incident lasted five hours and involved 15 team members.
