Horses and riders from Eden were among 45 or so who took to the sands of Morecambe Bay for a spectacular summer beach ride.
The riders, who came from a wide area to take part, were led by fisherman and Queen’s Guide to the Sands Michael Wilson, along with two other supporters on tractors.
Michael usually helps people across the treacherous sands, but last Friday he guided the annual summer ride which saw riders explore the 120 square miles of sand revealed at low tide. The seven-mile ride started and finished at Flookburgh and took the horses out to cross the Leven Bank.
When not guiding groups across the ever-changing South Lakeland sands and avoiding the dangerous areas of quicksand Michael uses his rusty 1963 Nuffield tractor to collect shellfish.
The three-hour ride included gallops across the open beach and through the water with one of the Eden riders describing it as a great day out.
