Planning approval has been granted for a couple of bungalows to be replaced by two-storey houses at the Otters Holt development in Culgaith.
The site had been bought by Willan Homes from the previous developer and the new owners were seeking approval from Eden Council to replace the approved details with their own house types, a meeting of the district council’s planning committee was told.
The proposal requested an amendment to planning permission in relation to the layout of the Otters Holt development in Culgaith.
The previous planning application included two units, while the proposed layout showed three units. However, combined with other planning applications for changes to layout, the overall number of units on the site remains the same as previously approved, councillors were told.
A spokesman fror Culgaith Parish Council said they strongly object to this application on principle.
They said: “The original plans, in 2009, were for two bungalows, this application is for a pair of semis and a five-bedroom house.”
Local residents had been led to believe the development plots would be for two bungalows as agreed and many of them bought their houses on this premise.
“We understand that at least nine of the residents have objected and the result is that the developer has rejigged plot 12 so that the plans have been changed so the building has been flipped as a mirror image.
“A number of these residents consider this has made matters worse.
“If these plans are approved there will be an impact on the living conditions and amenity of nine households,” the parish council spokesman said.
