Two Eden men are to appear in court tomorrow charged with arson after they allegedly set fire to stables at the under-threat Newton Rigg College.
The men, aged 19 and 20, are each charged with arson at Askham Bryan College on July 21 when they set fire to stables causing £233.50 damage.
They are also charged with two offences of criminal damage at the college where they are accused of damaging a yurt hut kitchen door and door to the equine arena.
They are set to appear at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
The court case comes as thousands of people have signed a Herald petition to save the college and eminent speakers gave evidence to MPs in the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee last week in a bid to reverse the decision to close the college.
