Cumbria police said it would do everything in its power to bring perpetrators of sexual abuse to justice – no matter how much time has passed.
Detective Constable Mark Cox was speaking after Keswick farmer Raymond Harrison, 69, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for historic sex offences.
He sexually abused two children over almost four years in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
DC Cox said: “Both victims have been incredibly brave and courageous in reporting what happened to them and providing evidence throughout a lengthy investigation.
“I hope that this sentence sends a clear message to the perpetrators that no matter how much time has passed, sexual abuse will not be tolerated by Cumbria Constabulary and we will do everything within our power to hold them accountable for their actions and bring them to justice.
“No matter how much time has passed, support is available in Cumbria for victims of sexual offences.
“The constabulary works closely with trusted partner agencies to provide the appropriate support which is tailored to an individual’s circumstances.”
