People are being urged to stand for Penrith Town Council in the upcoming by-election.
The town council has a vacancy in Pategill ward and the by-election will be held on May 6.
A spokesman from the town council said: “You will find that some councillors represent a political party and others are independent of party affiliations. However, the main objective is simply to work together to serve the town.
“One of the important things you’ll be able to do is bring local issues to the attention of the town council and help it make decisions on behalf of the community.
“Don’t be put off by fears you can’t do the job. It’s very likely you can.
“There are a few things that might help, for example, ability to pay attention to detail, being friendly with a positive forward-thinking attitude and being willing to take part in reasoned and respectful debate.”
“If you’re interested, please ring or email us at the town council, and remember you don’t have to be political or a member of a political group. The main thing is to be passionate about Penrith and keen to make a difference.”
Potential candidates have to be 18 or over. Nomination forms are available from Eden District Council’s website and will be accepted from March 25 until 4pm on April 8.
People are asked to make an appointment to deliver them to the town hall to comply with COVID-19 requirements.
