A Penrith man who sent a string of menacing messages to his partner’s ex-boyfriend had been fined for the offence.
Daniel Slack, 28, of Clifford Close, was described as being truly remorseful for criminal conduct which took place on February 2.
Prosecutor George Shelley told Carlisle Magistrates’ Court of a 20-minute period from the time of the first message being received to police attending.
Slack sent a string of rambling messages to the man, both via video and through text using Facebook Messenger, which appeared abusive and threatening.
“The man contacted the police who immediately attend,” said Mr Shelley. “After the defendant was interviewed he fully admitted sending the messages, both video and written. He could not remember sending any of the messages due to his level of intoxication.”
Slack admitted a charge of sending communication conveying a threatening message. There was no impact statement from the victim.
A solicitor representing Slack said he was embarrassed by the incident, which came at a very stressful time in his personal life.
There was no ongoing animosity and he doesn’t even know what the messages mean, said Andrew Gurney, defending.
“He only wants to apologise for wasting everybody’s time.”
Magistrates imposed an £80 fine, plus £85 costs and a £34 mandatory surcharge.
