A footpath through a Penrith field has been closed to the public.
Contractors are on site at Thacka Beck field, near Pategill, undertaking works to prepare for the installation of a temporary bridge which will be deployed to protect the existing bridge over the beck to allow for gas main improvement work.
A spokesman for Penrith Town Council, who are the landowners, said: “The work is being carried out between June 15 to June 17.
“As such and in order to comply with health and safety due to the movement and presence of heavy plant the area has been closed to the public whilst this is ongoing.
“The council has been informed that works are scheduled to commence on June 30 for a period of 16 days when contractors working on behalf of Northern Gas Networks will be installing gas mains on Thacka Beck field.
“These works are associated with the gas main works that have been recently been ongoing on the A686 as part of the Penrith Reinforcement Project.
“The council will be liaising with the contractor to determine when and if pedestrian access can be permitted during the period of the works.
“The council and the contractor apologise for any temporary disruption this may cause.”
