A Penrith man has denied causing the death of a five-year-old boy by driving.
Darren Jacques, 40, of Hutton Hill, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on Thursday.
Jacques, a disqualified driver, was driving a Ford Transit tipper van in Newcastle, which collided with five-year-old Layton Darwood. The youngster was seriously injured and later died in hospital.
In court, Jacques denied a single charge of causing death by driving while disqualified. He was granted conditional bail and will go on trial on April 3 next year.
