Family, friends and former team-mates of the late Eden teenager Jack Taylor will pound Penrith’s streets this weekend to raise money in his memory.
Popular Jack, who played for Penrith AFC Reserves and harboured hopes of joining the police force, died in a car accident near the town in May, 2021. He was aged 19.
On Saturday evening (11th), a cousin of Jack’s, Luke Boyle, along with friend Cam Prokas will tackle a 4x4x48 challenge which is the brainchild of David Goggins, a retired US Navy Seal and ultra-endurance athlete.
Participants run four miles every four hours for 48 hours, meaning they complete 48 miles over the course of two days and nights.
“We’re getting a little bit apprehensive!” admitted Luke, 26-year-old manager of Westmorland League Division I side Kirkoswald. “But I am looking forward to it.”

Running partner Cam, 25, plays for both Wetheriggs United and Penrith AFC first team.
They will start at 6pm on Saturday, following a route around Penrith before finishing at the town’s Frenchfield Park stadium on Monday evening just after 6-30pm.
In between, relatives of Jack, team-mates from Penrith AFC Reserves and Kirkoswald and also former players Andrew Wills and Richard Prokas, from the town, will join Luke and Cam during four-hour slots at less sociable times of the 48-hour challenge. Donations to Luke and Cam’s chosen charity, the Great North Air Ambulance Service, had topped £4,500 in midweek.
Luke is an account manager at Heaton’s Group in Penrith, while Cam is a barber at BB’s gents’ hair stylist, Little Dockray.
