More than 600 responses have been received by Eden Council following a consultation about development on Penrith’s popular Beacon Hill.
The independent examiner looking at the town council’s neighbourhood development plan had written a policy which proposed that small-scale tourism development of up to 20 caravans, chalets or accommodation pods, including warden’s accommodation, should be allowed on the front of the Beacon.
A total of 628 responses were received – with 564 against the examiner’s proposed policy, 14 were in favour, 45 were observations, and five offered no comment.
Deputy town clerk Ros Richardson told a meeting of Penrith Town Council: “It was interesting that when you actually read the detail of the 14 who said they were in favour, their comments actually showed that they were against the proposal, while many who submitted comments expressed a desire for improved footpaths, but no further development.”
