A popular venue in Penrith has been given a makeover so it can now cater for smaller gatherings.
Penrith Conservative Club, on Crown Square, can cater for almost 200 people in its large function room and during lockdown, members decided to give the middle bar an overhaul so it could offer a smaller space for up to 35 people.
Now called 1882 – in honour of the year the club was founded – the team took time during lockdown to pull apart the old middle bar, redesigning, decorating, and furnishing the space.
Penrith Conservative Club secretary Roger Mandale said “It’s lovely to have a space where people can enjoy a cosy gathering on the ground floor. We’ve made it accessible for everyone and it has already proved popular with members looking to book small birthday and anniversary celebrations.
“Our stewards Gary and Lorraine Gowers do a great job looking after our members. They’ve been encouraging members to enjoy their meals in 1882 when it’s not booked for special occasions.
“This latest addition makes the club a very flexible space, and with a busy front bar and growing interest in our pool and snooker rooms, we’re feeling very positive about the year ahead.
“Now the COVID restrictions have eased, we’re glad to be to be fully open again.”
