Pennine pupils returned to school to find a new face at the top.
Gill Jackson is the new headteacher at the Alston Moor Federation, having previously lead schools in Lancashire and Devon.
She will be responsible for Samuel Kings School, Alston Primary School and Nenthead Primary School.
Mrs Jackson said “I’m delighted to be joining the schools in the Alston Moor Federation. Each school has its own different character, and all three schools are in very good shape, but I hope that I will be able to bring some new ideas, so that we continue to offer a great education to our young people.
“This is a difficult time for children and their families as there are so many anxieties around COVID still remaining.
“The job of everyone in education is to make sure that no child is left behind and that we balance the long term needs of children for an excellent education with the – hopefully – short term need to stay safe during this pandemic.”
Having previously lived in Hexham she added that she was delighted to return to the area.
Mrs Jackson is a National Leader of Education, and said she hopes to be able to use the links she has from working with other schools to give the staff in the federation opportunities to work with colleagues across the region.
