Penrith Mountain Rescue Team responded to 39 callouts in 2022, compared with around 50 in most years, according to its latest figures.
The team’s 35 volunteers put in 1,031 hours on incidents, which ranged from lost walkers and medical emergencies to assisting other mountain rescue teams and the North West Ambulance Service.
The team is made up entirely of volunteers who are on call at all times, in all weather conditions.
They cover an area extending from the far eastern fells of the Lake District across to the North Pennines and all the way up to the Scottish border — about 1,600 square miles.
“The team heavily relies on the generosity of the public to stay operational,” a spokesman said. “A huge thank you to all our supporters for raising awareness of our team and the work our incredible volunteers do.”
