Lowther Castle & Gardens will remain open on Monday.
While many tourist attractions, shops and businesses are closing to observe the bank holiday marking the Queen’s state funeral, Lowther Castle bosses made the decision after consultation with staff, they said.
A spokeswoman said: “Long-time local residents will remember that Prince Philip was a regular competitor at the Lowther Driving Trials and stayed with the Lowther family on each occasion. The Queen accompanied him twice on these visits.
“Last weekend, a record 5,000 people in three days came to enjoy the castle, gardens and adventure playground for free.
“Lowther Castle made this gesture as a tribute to the Queen’s exceptional generosity of spirit and in memory of the family’s long and happy association with the late royal couple.”
