Ten members of Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were involved in helping a woman who had injured her knee in the area around Red Tarn, below Helvellyn.
They turned out after a call from the North West Ambulance Service on the afternoon of Thursday, May 5, to say the woman had been unable to continue because of the injury.
The Patterdale team leader could not get back in touch with the casualty to establish her exact location, so the rescuers went on to the hill to try and find her.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service helimed team were nearby training one of their pilots and offered to assist.
The helimed team quickly located the stranded walker from the air and managed to land nearby.
The casualty was carried to the helicopter and evacuated down to the valley from where she made her own way to hospital for further treatment. The incident lasted two hours.
