After eight years as a volunteer with the Fellrunner Village Bus, George Blaylock has called it a day and hung up the keys for the last time.
George has been a volunteer driver with the Fellrunner since 2013 and retires as he celebrates his 80th birthday next week
George, of Lazonby, is a former farm worker turned HGV driver but is best known across the area for his love of vintage tractors and ploughing competitions.
Fellrunner chairman Kevin McGilloway said “George has been such an asset for the Fellrunner, driving both the service buses and the private hires and excursions.
“He is very popular with all our passengers and customers and many groups, when booking a trip on the Fellrunner, would specifically ask for George to be the driver.
“As a general rule, HGV drivers are not used to the ‘cargo’ talking back to them but George enjoyed the banter as much as the passengers enjoyed being driven by him. He will be a big miss.”
George was greeted by the chairman and other Fellrunner volunteers after his last run and presented with a leaving gift and a bouquet for his wife, Francis.
