An Eden hotel has been named among the best in the UK by a prestigious guide.
The Good Hotel Guide has handed one of its 12 coveted César Awards to the Westmorland Hotel in Tebay.
The former Tebay Services Hotel was named the best hotel in the North. The Good Hotel Guide said: “This Lake District hotel on the M6 offers quiet rooms with fell views, unfussy but tasty Cumbrian food, excellent value for money and what readers describe as a feeling of ‘peace and well-being’.”
The dog friendly hotel recently featured in the hit channel 4 series, A Lake District Farmshop that features the unique producers and people behind Tebay Services.
Hotel manager Bev Fothergill said “Our hotel is all about celebrating the landscape and produce of Cumbria. We’re more than just a ‘motorway services’ hotel, our aim is to give our guests a comfortable stay with a true taste of the local area. Top quality local produce and our incredible team are a crucial part of our success. We’re absolutely thrilled to be named best hotel in the North of England.”
The Césars – named after famous Swiss hotelier César Ritz – are given to the hotels, inns and B&Bs considered outstanding in their particular category, resulting in a “must go” list of places to stay for those planning weekend breaks and holidays.
The only other Cumbrian hotel to be handed an accolade was Forest Side in Grasmere.
Forest Side was named as Best Country Hotel. The Good Hotel Guide said: “Michelin-starred cuisine (with 90 per cent of the produce sourced from a 10-mile radius), elegant bedrooms and red squirrels in the garden are the successful recipe for this 20-room hotel.”
The Good Hotel Guide, now in its 46th edition, is the only independent hotel guide in the UK as it does not accept payment for inclusion or free hospitality in return for coverage.
