Discussions are ongoing about the future of this year’s Appleby Horse Fair, the group in charge of co-ordinating the festival said.
Appleby Horse Fair Multi-Agency Strategic Co-ordinating Group met yesterday to discuss the latest instalment of the fair.
Earlier this month it was revealed that the fair would not go ahead on its original date of June 3.
It was also revealed that organisers would consider holding the event later in the year.
Chairman of Appleby Horse Fair MASCG and deputy chief executive of Eden District Council, Les Clark, said: “The MASCG has considered the public health, resourcing and community relations aspects of a number of different alternatives regarding whether or not the fair takes place this year.
“However, there are further issues which need to be considered and more parties which need to be consulted before a decision can be reached in respect of the 2021 fair.
“Another meeting will be held by the middle of April, following which we hope to be in a position to provide further clarity.
“Our overarching aim is the safety of the public – including those attending and the settled community – and it is only right to properly consider all options before any formal decision is made.”
