Employees at Eden Council have been invited to apply for voluntary redundancy.
It is part of restructuring proposals for the authority which are now out for consultation.
Members of staff deemed to be “at risk” were set to receive notification of their status by email ahead of individual consultation meetings being called to discuss the detail of the new proposals.
An Eden District Council spokesman said: “The council’s current transformation programme is designed to reshape Eden District Council into an organisation which is sustainable and fit for the future. A council that delivers services to meet the needs of our customers, residents, businesses and partners.
“The drivers for change are to better align our people and resources to deliver corporate priorities; modernise culture and systems to create an integrated working environment that improves the customer experience and cements services in the area whilst delivering £1.2m in savings to balance the council’s budget by the 2024-25 financial year. The staffing restructure aims to deliver £450,000 of this.
“Consultation with staff on the proposed new structure of the council has now begun. Staff were briefed last week on the proposed new council structure and feedback on the proposals is being encouraged.
The staff consultation will last for a period of four weeks, until Wednesday, May 26.
“During this time, staff will have the option to apply for voluntary redundancy and the new structure will be considered by the management of change panel during the week commencing May 31.
“Once consultation has been completed, the aim is to have the new structure implemented by July 31.”
