Community spirited Lazonby boy Jenson Purdham has received an ambassador award from his school following his efforts in raising awareness of important issues in the village.
Seven-year-old Jenson, of Seat Hill, who is the son of Amy Brockbank and Ross Purdham, rescued a small hedgehog from the road and produced a poster asking drivers to look out for hedgehogs in Lazonby.
More recently, he stood in some dog mess on his way to school and this spurred him on to produce his own posters, asking people to pick up after their dogs, which have been laminated and are displayed around the village.
Amy said their neighbour Andy Sharples has a hedgehog house and Jenson helps out feeding the animals.
After one was found on the road, Jenson took it upon himself to make a notice urging motorists to drive carefully in the village.
“He is very keen to look after things,” said Amy.
She said the ambassador award was a shield which gets awarded at the end of every term to a pupil for being a good ambassador for the school out in the community.
“I am very proud. He does not really need any encouragement from me – he is very aware,” said Amy of Lazonby Primary School pupil Jenson, who has a sister, Sienna, aged 20 months.
