A cold caller knocking on doors in Nenthead was dealt with by police.
Two officers, including a PCSO, stopped the man, who was carrying a holdall full of tea towels on Tuesday.
The officers said that positive action was taken.
They advised residents to call 101 if the man returned and not to trade with strangers on the doorstep.
