An Appleby man was caught with three illegal drugs after his car was stopped by police in the town.
Niall Dixon, now 24, was pulled over on Scattergate Crescent on October 21 2019.
“He smelled strongly of cannabis and was nervous,” prosecutor Brendan Burke told Carlisle Crown Court.
Police discovered a rock of a white substance – cocaine – as they searched Dixon’s vehicle, and also visited his home.
In total, they seized 12g of cocaine, 4g of cannabis and a smaller amount of another class B drug, ketamine.
When brought to court, Dixon admitted possessing all three illegal substances. He had been locked up in 2016 for his role in a plot to supply class B drug Mcat.
Dixon’s barrister, Kim Whittlestone, conceded he was using illegal drugs up until his arrest in 2019 having begun taking cannabis and then self-medicated with other substances in the aftermath of a serious road crash.
“The delay in this case has allowed him to show he can change,” said Miss Whittlestone, who revealed Dixon was currently working, that he and his partner were hoping to get a home together.
“He has, I would suggest, a bright future.”
Passing sentence, Recorder Archer noted Dixon, of Scattergate Crescent, Appleby, had self-referred to drug recovery group Unity and completed work while seeking to address his offending behaviour.
He fined Dixon £250, saying: “I very much hope that you have now finally been able to put your involvement in drugs behind you, your involvement in the world of drugs behind you, and this court or indeed any other court need not see you in the dock again.”
