Alston’s monthly market is set to return on Saturday.
Featuring the best of the areas’ crafters and producers, the first market will take place on Fairhill Recreation Ground from 9am to 2pm.
Last year saw the successful return of the markets, after an absence of many years, thanks to a small group of dedicated volunteers and local business owners.
Following the winter break, they are back for the summer, promising to be bigger and better, now with a new venue featuring more facilities for shoppers and browsers to enjoy.
Visitors to the market can expect to find among the stalls, wood, fabric and wool crafts, local cheeses and mustards, candles and fragrances, homemade pies and other baked goods. There will also be a car boot sale and table toppers.
The theme this month is Community Showcase.
There will be representatives from the Epiacum Roman Fort, Woodland Trust, Alston Women’s Institute, Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS), Cumbria Police and Alston’s Fire Service along with the Alston Moor Ambulance Campaign / Community First Responders who will be there to give information and chat about how people can get involved to save the local ambulance.
The popular Repair Café will be on hand to attempt to save your electrical and household items destined for the bin.
The Bowling Pavilion will be open, selling hot drinks and snacks and the children’s play area will keep the younger visitors happy. Off street parking is available nearby.
A new feature of the market for 2022 is monthly themed days, including a Summertime Special and Harvest Festival.
The market will also be an added attraction at established Alston events, such as the gala on June 25 and the agricultural show on September 3 on Tyne Willows field in the centre of Alston.
Market organisers can still find room for any local producers who would like to try out event. For more information, email alstonmarket@hotmail.com
