Eden councillors will tonight be asked to rubber stamp the appointment of a new interim chief executive for the district authority on a daily rate of £1,180.
Lined up for the job is former Allerdale Borough Council chief executive, Ian Frost.
It is proposed that the appointment would be on an interim basis until 31st March, 2023, and will require additional funding of £52,645 in 2021-22 and £105,289 in 2022-23, which will been drawn from reserves.
Mr Frost is expected to replace the outgoing interim chief executive, Jason Gooding, who left the council on August 31.
At a meeting of the council’s human resources and appeals committee on Tuesday, September 14, it was unanimously agreed to recommend the appointment of Ian Frost, who is both local to the area and able to start immediately.
A report to councillors states: “The committee considered a number of factors and recruitment paths, but agreed that the key factors were the need to bring in someone quickly with the level of capacity and experience to support the council through local government reorganisation.”
A council spokesman said: “Eden District Council’s human resources and appeals panel have approved a recommendation to appoint former Allerdale Borough Council chief executive, Ian Frost, as the council’s new full-time chief executive, on a fixed-term contract to March, 2023.
“This being the proposed vesting date for the two new unitary authorities set to replace the six existing district, borough and city councils and Cumbria County Council as part of the Government’s plans for local government reorganisation.”
Should the council approve the panel’s recommendation, it is anticipated that Mr Frost’s formal appointment will be confirmed shortly afterwards.
