Eden Valley Hospice has paid tribute to two incredible landlords who have raised money for the charity over the last 10 years with weekly pub quizzes.
Tony and Becky Borgogno, who run The Crown Inn at Kirkoswald, are just about to complete the sale of the pub and have handed over their final donation to the hospice, making the total raised £4,568.
The couple have owned the pub since 2012 and had previously owned it between 2002 and 2007. The fundraising quizzes have taken place weekly on Sunday evenings for the last decade.
Tony said: “Supporting Eden Valley Hospice was suggested by two of our customers many years ago as the hospice cared for their partners and looked after them really well, and it all stemmed from that. It was something we agreed would be a good cause and a worthy local charity to support.
“It started out as just something to do on a Sunday evening with a few locals and it just snowballed from there. We’d really like to thank all our customers and staff for all their support and memories over the years.”
The money donated to the hospice will help the charity continue to provide specialist care for adults from north Cumbria who have life limiting conditions and support their families, friends and carers.
Patricia Livsey, chief executive of the hospice, said: “On behalf of everyone at Eden Valley Hospice we’d like to say a huge thank you to Tony, Becky and all the regulars at the Crown who’ve taken part in the pub quiz over the years.
“To fundraise for us for such a long time really is incredible and be assured that the money raised has made a real difference to local families going through a very difficult time.”
