A call has gone out for performers to take part in Penrith’s Winter Droving later this year.
The annual event is gearing up for a return to the streets in October and organisers are currently seeking original talent for this year’s event.
Now a staple in the winter calendar, it saw around 25,000 people attend the one-day festival before 2020.
The Winter Droving is an annual spectacle of feathery, fuzzy, and glittery animal masks, rocking musicians and bands, fire torchbearers, circus sideshow style acts, and larger-than-life illuminated animal lanterns.
It usually comprises of a town centre market, five stages throughout the town, roaming performers and a fiery lantern procession which sees the town centre full to bursting with revellers.
Organisers are currently planning a slightly more relaxed event for 2021, featuring a more spacious market, funfair, and larger-scale installations around the town across a number of days.
Organisers say to fit with the events unique style and themes, performers and musicians should be a fan of all things carnie plus be bold, energetic, charismatic, and 100% fun. You need to be one-of-a-kind, out-of-the-ordinary with your own original material/act and a unique vibe.
Some of The Winter Drovings past acts include Kamchatka, Gandini Juggling, The Baghdaddies, Electric Swing Circus, Other Half Productions, K.O.G & The Zongo Brigade, SPARK!, Ponyland, Dan Fox, The Wheelabouts, Elaine Davidson, Beachmaster, The Melodrome, Pangottic, Tankus, Wearequasars, Bluejam, Dick Danger, BLAST Furness, Baybeat, Mary the Faerie, Paka and his mechanical horse, plus a host of jugglers, stilt-walkers, fire breathers, street performers and Cumbrian singers and bands, far too many to name them all.
